Rainwater utilisation at Engelthal Monastery
Use of the WFF 300 vortex fine filter
Object data
Altenstadt, Germany | 2000
In the Benedictine Abbey of Engelthal, Altenstadt in the Wetterau district of Hesse, the driving force behind the use of rainwater was the technical director of the monastery, who is also privately committed to environmental protection. In Engelthal, there was no government funding; however the local community supported the use of rainwater.
Drainage is provided for 1,200 m² of roof area of the intermediate building, guest house and church. The rainwater flows up to 70 m through underground concrete pipes to the filter. 25 m further on is the rainwater storage tank with a capacity of 13 m³. Here, a double pump system with automatic control takes the flush water for 50 toilets.
