The shut-off valve is an accessory for rainwater systems with elevated cisterns.
It is essential if there is a possibility that the maximum water level in the cistern could exceed the mid-point of the intermediate tank in the house. It is normally closed and keeps the supply pipe from the cistern to the intermediate tank closed until the cistern pump is activated.
When the cistern pump is energised, the solenoid valve of the shut-off valve also opens, allowing the supply line to flow. This prevents water from the higher-level cistern from flowing unintentionally into the intermediate tank via the supply hose.
