San Francesca Dormitory
Use of one filter collector
Object data
Tokyo, Japan | 2008
The nuns of San Francesca on the outskirts of Tokyo have been caring for parentless children for a long time. The new girls' dormitory for young adults was completed as an addition to the orphanage in December 2008 and has taken in the first five girls. The nuns' social mission also has an ecological and building component: The order's new buildings incorporate wind power, solar and rainwater technology. The filter collectors installed in the downpipes are from WISY AG.
"The basic ethical attitude to the preservation of creation dictates this to the Christian women," says Japanese architect Hiroshi Kamiya, explaining his project. In only one year of construction, he has brought the order's wishes into form. For watering by the children, a 150-litre tank is automatically filled. In addition, a hose reel is available to reach to the plant pots along the roadside.
