On this ranch with two barns, the roof of each barn is connected to a WISY vortex fine filter. The filtered water is stored in an 80 m³ underground tank (a membrane-wrapped, modular "crate system"). Its general purpose is to provide drinking water for the animals, but it is also especially important as an emergency reservoir to supplement the supply of water from the ranch's own deep bore wells during periods of drought or public water supply shortages.
The project was funded by the United States Department of Agriculture's EQIP program and is now continuously monitored to collect data about water quality and flood protection. The annual rainwater yield is around 2,000 m³.
