Float switch
Optimum level control and pump protection
Float switches are electrical switches in domestic and industrial water systems. These devices control pumps, solenoid valves, alarm devices or electrical controls depending on the fill level in containers, tanks or cisterns. In rainwater utilisation, for example, they ensure that water is replenished as required or protect the pumps from running dry. Find out more nowFunction of a float switch
A float switch ensures precise control of the water level in your water system. It protects your pump from running dry or prevents your cistern or water tank from running empty. This is important in rainwater utilisation systems, for example, in order to make optimum use of the collected rainwater.
In general, these switches are ideal for use in waste water, service water and tap water systems. Float switches are equally suitable for submersible pumps or freely installed suction pumps. They are designed for continuous use under water.
Level control
Regulates the fill level in tanks and cisterns.
Automatic replenishment
Ensure a constant supply of water.
Versatile application possibilities
Ensures a constant supply of water.
Dry-running protection
Protects the pump from damage due to dry running.
Uninterrupted water supply
Make-up valve opens automatically
The replenishment of mains water is an important area of application for a float switch. It switches over when the water level falls below a defined minimum level and activates a solenoid valve that allows tap water to flow into the cistern or an intermediate tank. This guarantees that there is a supply of water in the cistern at all times and prevents failures due to a lack of water. This ensures that there is always enough water available in the cistern, even if it has only rained a little.
Float switch
for water make-up
The yellow float switch is suitable for controlling a mains water make-up system. For attachment to the inlet pipe in the cistern or to the underwater pump. The switch lever defines the switch-on and switch-off point so that the water level rises by 9 cm. In rainwater utilisation, this corresponds to the daily requirement of a family in a detached house.
- Economical replenishment
- Only 9 cm switching clearance
- Quick and safe installation on the inlet pipe or the submersible pump

Dry-running protection for your pump
Switch-off if the water level is too low
The dry-running protection consists of the float switch switching off the pump if the water level is too low. This prevents damage to the pump due to running dry and considerably extends its service life. When used for rainwater utilisation, the pump is reactivated by the float switch when the storage tank reaches its minimum fill level during the next rain event. The float switches are suitable for both submersible pumps and suction pumps.

Float switch
as dry-running protection
The red float switch is used to switch off the pump if the water level in the water storage tank or cistern is insufficient. For attachment to the inlet pipe of the cistern or to the underwater pump. When the storage tank is sufficiently full again and the minimum fill level is reached, e.g. After a rain event, the pump is switched on again for operation by the float switch.
- Effective pump protection
- Only 9 cm switching clearance
- Quick and safe installation on the inlet pipe or submersible pump
Individual monitoring and control
depending on the water level
Float switch
as changeover switch
The switch changes the connection between two circuits when the water level rises and falls. When the water level rises, the float rises and closes circuit 1. When the water level falls, circuit 1 is opened and circuit 2 is closed.
- Automatic switching of two circuits
- Only 9 cm switching clearance with switching lever
- Quick and safe installation on the inlet pipe or the underwater pump

Simple installation
Installing the WISY float switches is simple and straightforward. The switches can be mounted directly on the inlet pipe or on the submersible pump. High-quality stainless steel clamps ensure a durable and reliable fastening. Float switches can be installed with or without a swivel joint to adapt the switching cycle to different water levels. For detailed instructions on connecting the float switches, you can find further information in our download area.
Maintenance and care
WISY float switches are easy to care for and require only minimal maintenance. An occasional check and cleaning promotes reliable operation. In particular, the float must be able to move freely, cables and hoses should be firmly attached and run outside the float's radius of movement. Float switches for waste water systems must be checked somewhat more frequently to ensure that they continue to function correctly.

Conclusion
Summary
Float switches enable the safe operation and efficient utilisation of water systems. They can be used for a wide range of applications, from preventing dry running, signalling when the tank is empty or overflowing, pumping water around and automatic replenishment. WISY offers high-quality, durable products for professional use that can be installed in any water system. This investment pays for itself quickly by preventing pump damage and ensuring a continuous water supply. The switches can be used universally for submersible pumps and freely installed pumps, for waste water or pre-filtered water.
